A fisherman died Monday on a beach at Alitak Bay on the southern end of Kodiak Island. That’s according to information from the U.S. Coast Guard and Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers confirmed Wednesday that the fisherman who died is 47-year-old Blake Gloria of Kodiak.

Tim DeSpain, a Trooper spokesperson, says the Coast Guard called them from Kodiak at around 4:30 p.m.

“And reported that an unconscious male was receiving CPR and was located approximately a mile from the Alitak Cannery,” said DeSpain. “The initial investigation by the Troopers revealed that an adult male had fallen into the water after a skiff that he was in had overturned. Several people attempted lifesaving measures, but they were unsuccessful.”

A Coast Guard report says that CPR was administered for about 30 minutes and that a duty flight surgeon was notified, but stood down after they received reports that the man had died.

Troopers have taken over the death investigation, which is ongoing.

Next of kin has been notified.

Correction: An earlier version of this story based on information released by the Coast Guard, misstated Blake Gloria’s age. He was 47.
