Warm August Night is one of Kodiak’s biggest events. It gives locals the chance to enjoy folksy music, munch down on burgers, warm up by the fire, and even throw themselves into the occasional mosh pit.
KMXT has a behind-the-scenes look at the music from Saturday night.
People mill about on the fairgrounds and catch up with old friends. And inside a building on the property, a popular local band warms up.
That’s Ellamy Tiller and the Twang.
And on the fiddle is the youngest band member, 19-year-old Sawyer Olsen, who’s been playing with the band since he was 8.
“Me and Jimmy P over here kinda just… he kinda became my mentor I guess you could say, so I’ve just been playing with him for a while and he’s been a big part of me playing music.”
And who is Jimmy P? He’s the guy on the mandolin.
Other performers included A Couple More Drinks and Crooked Island Band.
Edit 8/15: A former version of this story was mistaken in the name of the band.
