This evening’s regular Kodiak Island Borough Assembly meeting is the final meeting for assembly member Matt Van Daele. On the agenda is a measure to declare his seat vacant which clears the way for the assembly to appoint someone in his place.
Van Daele is moving out of state so his wife can pursue her career as a police officer.
Another assembly related matter is the swearing in of newly elected members following local elections earlier this month. But, because of the way the local law is written they won’t actually take their seats this evening.
The regular term of office for assembly members begins on the first Monday following a certification of the election and upon taking an oath of office. The plan is for the Borough Clerk to administer the Oath of Office tonight and the newly elected members will officially take office on Monday, October 22.
There are no public hearings slated for tonight, but the public can speak for three minutes during Citizen’s Comments at the beginning of the meeting and near the end.
An executive session is schedule for the end of the meeting to discuss litigation tactics and strategies regarding the Kodiak Island Borough and Watterson Construction.
