Alaska Fisheries Report — Feb. 7, 2019

Halibut is in the news this week as American and Canadian policy makers come to agreement on how to manage halibut. We have two reports on how the International Pacific Halibut Commission divvied up the harvest for commercial fishermen.

The commission also set limits on charter operators. The halibut regs for 2019 will be similar to last year’s regs for both Southeast Alaska and central Gulf charter boats.

Researchers wonder how the federal government will affect the summer research season.

We had help from Johanna Eurich at KYUK in Bethel. KBBI’s Aaron Bolton in Homer, And from Laine Welch at Alaska Fish Radio.

Thanks to everyone who helps make our program possible and remember, stay safe fishing and remember to wear your life vest. They really do save lives.
