Alaska Fisheries Report – March 28, 2019

It’s been 30 years since the Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef. The massive spill would forever change the lives of many Alaska fishermen and their families.

As the fishing seasons shift, so does the Coast Guards small temporary duty stations located close to the grounds. A report on the Coast Guard demobilizing its forward operating locations that cover the Bering Sea and Aleutian Chain waters. Next location–Cordova to provide quick access to salmon fishermen.

And we finish up with a report on the 40th Anniversary of ComFish, Alaska’s longest running commercial fisheries trade show. A special event this year Fish in a Box—can you identify the species by feel alone?

We had help from Rachel Waldholz and Jennifer Pemberton with Alaska’s Energy Desk.

From the podcast the Midnight Oil titled Foretold Disaster: The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill.

And Laine Welch at Alaska Fish Radio.
