Air Station helo involved in a ‘mishap’ on ground in Cordova late in April

 

A Coast Guard helicopter was damaged in an incident on the ground in Cordova on Friday, April 26.

The Coast Guard issued a brief, three sentence, statement on the incident after KMXT News requested details.  

According to the statement, an Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter sustained damage Friday afternoon , April 26, in a “mishap” while on the ground at the Coast Guard Aviation Support Facility in Cordova.

The extent of the damage and the details surrounding the mishap remain under investigation. 

“Thankfully,” said the statement, “nobody was injured.”The Kodiak air station regularly forward deploys helicopters and crews to Cordova in order to have a helo several hours closer to any search and rescue case that might come from the area.

The temporary stationing of helicopters in Cordova during busy fishing seasons has resulted in the saving of a more than a few lives throughout the years.

 

Here is full text of Coast Guard’s response to KMXT inquiry about MH-60 mishap which happened April 26.

 

“A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter sustained damage after a mishap on the ground at the Coast Guard Aviation Support Facility in Cordova, Alaska, Friday afternoon.
Thankfully, nobody was injured.
The extent of the damage and the details surrounding the mishap remain under investigation.”
