Waste water overflow on Metrokin Way, Public Works excavating sewer line

KMXT received this press release from the City of Kodiak with information on a waste water leak on Metrokin Way. Public Works personnel will be working on it and expects to complete repairs by Saturday evening. In the meantime, people are urged to use caution near Mission Lake and Mission Beach.

Waste Water Overflow on Metrokin Way

 

May 10, 2019 – Kodiak – A waste water overflow has occurred on Metrokin Way in the city of Kodiak. The overflow occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. Thursday when a waste water leak was reported to the city Public Works Department. City Personnel responded immediately and shut down the Lift Station #5 off Metrokin Way. The State of Alaska Environmental Conservation has been notified.

Effluent has been discovered at Mission Lake and Mission Beach. Nearby residents are being notified and signage has been placed to notify the public of potential contamination of surface water.

“The City is committed to the health of our residents and is taking all necessary steps to limit any public health hazard” said City Manager Mike Tvenge.

Repairs are expected to be completed late Saturday evening, until then use caution in this area.
