Brush fire near Kodiak College is contained, cause remains unknown

A brush fire broke out near Kodiak College on Monday afternoon, according to a Nixle alert sent out by the Kodiak Police Department. A police dispatcher confirmed that the fire is contained, and should be extinguished by the end of the day, though the cause of the fire remains unknown. Both the City of Kodiak Fire Department and police are on scene, according to the dispatcher, who preferred not to be named.

Benny Benson Drive and Rezanof Drive East were previously closed while the fire was being put out. Both roads are now open to regular traffic, according to a second Nixle alert.

This is a breaking story. KMXT will post updates as they become available.
