On the agenda: tonight’s Borough Assembly Meeting

The Borough Assembly is having a regular meeting tonight in Borough Assembly Chambers tonight at 6:30 pm.

On tonight’s agenda, the assembly will be considering adopting the “minimum development” version of the City of Kodiak’s Near Island Development Plan. This version was the most conservative of three plans to develop Near Island, limiting industrial area and adding no new commercial or institutional land uses. If the assembly moves ahead with this version of the plan, its next step will be a public hearing.

The assembly is also considering an ordinance to amend a chapter of Borough Code related to property taxes. Since the borough’s Assessing Department was audited by the state in June, staff is recommending the code be updated to bring it more in line with Alaska State statutes.

As always, there will be an opportunity for citizens’ comments at the beginning and end of the meeting. KMXT will broadcast the meeting live at 6:30 pm.
