School concerts and Joe Floyd Tournament fill last week before winter break

The fall semester is winding down for Kodiak Island Borough Schools, but that doesn’t mean things are slowing down.

The winter break begins Monday Dec. 23 and runs through Friday Jan. 3.

But in this week before then there are four winter concerts and the annual Joe Floyd Basketball Tournament.

The Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium is booked up much of this week with grade school concerts.

Tonight the Peterson Elementary K-2 Winter Concert begins at 6:30.

Tuesday night the East Elementary Winter Concert for grades 3-5 begins at 7:00.

Wednesday North Star Elementary students K-5 take the stage for their Winter Concert which begins at 6:00 p.m.

And then on Thursday evening Main Elementary’s K-2 Winter Concert begins at 6:30.

Thursday is also the day when dribblers from many Alaska communities converge on Kodiak for the 53rd Annual Joe Floyd Basketball Tournament.

The event is named after long-time Kodiak teacher and coach, Joe Floyd, who was instrumental in developing Kodiak’s sports and athletic programs.

The basketball tournament runs through Saturday the 21 at the High School.
