Saturday is Tax Free Day in Kodiak, no sales tax charged at participating businesses

Saturday is Tax Free Day in Kodiak. That means if you shop at participating businesses you can make purchases on Saturday without paying the City of Kodiak’s seven percent sales tax.

The tax free day began in 2009 when the City Council adopted a resolution by the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce as a way to encourage people to spend money at local businesses and to help people save.

According to the Chamber office, many shops plan specials to go along with the tax free event to multiply the savings.
