Ravn to halt flights to rural communities, according to spokesperson

We had help with this story from Caroline Lester at KUCB in Unalaska.

RavnAir group announced today that it is cutting almost all service to rural communities.

City Manager and Kodiak Emergency Services Director, Mike Tvenge, confirmed that Ravn will halt flights to and from Kodiak because of the coronavirus crisis. Tvenge spoke during Thursday’s live broadcast of the weekly update from the Kodiak Emergency Services Council.

Ravn Spokesperson Debbie Reinwand said that Ravn is reducing operations by 90 percent, and QUOTE: “shrinking its operating fleet from 30 aircraft to three Dash 8s.”

Essential Air Service communities will still have service. Unalaska, which is not an essential air service community, is still receiving service. Kenai, Homer, Valdez, King Salmon, Dillingham, St. Paul, Bethel, Aniak, St. Mary’s, McGrath, and Unalakleet will also all continue to receive service.

As of 11:30 this morning, a spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration said, quote: “We’ve not yet been notified officially.”

This is a developing story.
