Mechanical problems: M/V Kennicott delayed in Juneau

The reduced winter ferry schedule has left communities like Kodiak, Port Lions, Seldovia and Homer dependent on the Kennicott. But this week, the ship is out of commission.

The Alaska Marine Highway System says the Kennicott is in Juneau, where technicians are working to fix a mechanical problem.

The ferry was supposed to stop in Kodiak on Thursday and then head for Seldovia, Homer, Port Lions and back to Kodiak on Saturday, before going to Whittier.

The Marine Highway System says it anticipates the Kennicott returning to service on Saturday, depending on the nature of the repairs needed.

As of right now, if the mechanical issues are resolved in time, the next sailing out of Kodiak will be November 5th to Port Lions, Seldovia and Homer. All passengers are being notified and rebooked — or, refunded as necessary.

The new sailing schedule is available at www.FerryAlaska.com.
