Kodiak COVID Count: Active cases fall to 4, Kodiak moves back to “green” risk level

The Kodiak Area Emergency Services Organization has reported no new COVID-19 cases today (Thursday) for the Kodiak Island Borough, leaving the total case count since the start of the pandemic to 1048 cases locally.

Local active cases have dropped down further to only four.

Mike Tvenge announced during the Thursday COVID update that the Kodiak Emergency Operations Center had lowered the community risk level from yellow to green.

“This movement to green risk level by no means says we have stopped the virus,” Tvenge said. “We still have active case counts in Kodiak and the rest of the state. However, right now our risk is reduced and the emergency services council would like to acknowledge this.”

The green risk level limits patron capacity to 50%, and face coverings are now “strongly recommended.”

There have been 42 hospitalizations and five deaths due to COVID-19 in the Kodiak Island Borough to date; there are no current active COVID-19 hospitalizations locally.

Additionally, the state has expanded those allowed to schedule for the vaccine to those 50 and older who have certain illnesses, or who work in particular at-risk professions, as well as education staff regardless of age. The particulars of this expansion, as well as health conditions and careers that qualify those over 50 for the vaccine, are available to read at the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services website; dhss.alaska.gov.
