Coast Guard rescues three teenagers near Selawik Lake

A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 helicopter crew in forward deployment in Kotzebue rescued three teenagers stranded near Selawik Lake on Tuesday.

The three teens, who were 16, 14, and 13, had gone on a hunting trip the previous day. They did not return that evening, and State Troopers called in the Coast Guard to help them find them.

The youths had travelled in a skiff that had started drifting on the lake during their trip. While the Coast Guard helicopter team was en route to the search area, an Alaska State pilot who was assisting the search located the teenagers on the western side of the lake.

All three were recovered in good condition.
