Alaska Fisheries Report March 17, 2022

On this week’s Alaska Fisheries Report with Terry Haines: Marine biologist Tamsen Peeples talks about the challenges and potential rewards of the emerging kelp farming industry:

Tamsen will be presenting on the subject at next week’s Comfish Alaska

on Saturday March 26, at 10 am at the Best Western Inn in Kodiak.

Kelp Farming

Marine biologist Tamsen Peeples has traveled from California to Corsica studying everything from harbor seals to cuttlefish. But she is Alaska born and raised and in the past several years her focus has been the emerging mariculture industry in the greatest state, specifically seaweed farming. The first thing I asked was if seaweed is an acceptable scientific term.
