Members of the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly voted unanimously at Tuesday night’s special meeting to fire the borough manager. Assembly member Geoffrey Smith was absent for the vote.

Roxanne Murphy had been hired by the borough in November of last year. She was previously the assistant city manager and interim manager for the City of Valdez.

The reasons for Murphy’s termination were unclear – most of the Tuesday night’s meeting was spent in executive session discussing her performance evaluation, according to the meeting agenda packet.

Borough Mayor Bill Roberts says the borough’s Engineering and Facilities Department Director Dave Conrad will serve as interim manager until a permanent replacement can be hired. The Borough Assembly is holding a special meeting on Thurs., June 23 to discuss hiring plans for the position.

Murphy could not be reached for comment.
