The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly has chosen a new borough manager. Assembly members unanimously voted during a special meeting on Thursday, Oct. 13 to offer the job to Elke Doom. Doom was one of four finalists the Borough interviewed for the position in early September.

She’s currently the interim manager of Royal Oak Township in Michigan – and has municipal experience in Alaska, serving as Valdez’s city manager from 2017 to 2019. During her time there, she helped oversee completion of the city’s new boat harbor, according to her resume.

When reached by phone, Borough Manager Bill Roberts said Doom had accepted the position – although her contract still needs to be negotiated, and approved by an Assembly vote.

Kodiak Island Borough Assembly members unanimously voted to fire the previous manager at a special meeting in June. The borough’s Engineering and Facilities Manager Dave Conrad has been serving as interim manager since then.
