Talk of the Rock: Kodiak Pride

Pride Month is celebrated across the country and internationally each June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City, which are considered a watershed moment for the LGBTQ+ community’s fight for equality. In Kodiak, both the city and borough have issued proclamations observing June as Pride Month.

KMXT’s news director Kirsten Dobroth spoke with Hazel Delos Santos and Amanda Becker from Kodiak Pride about what this month’s celebration will look like in Kodiak, and the importance of Pride.

Resources mentioned in this episode include Identity Alaska, which is based in Anchorage, and PFLAG, the country’s largest LGBTQ+ advocacy network. GLAD is a New England based legal organization. The Trevor Project also provides 24-hour support services to LGBTQ+ youth in crisis.
