Kodiak will join nine other coastal Alaska cities at noon Alaska time on Tuesday in a rally for the Alaska Marine Highway System. Events are scheduled from Dutch Harbor to Ketchikan to bring attention to AMHS’ series of struggles over the last few months and year that have resulted in every ferry out of service, with the exception of the Lituya, a small ferry that shuttles between Ketchikan and Metlakatla.

Every other ferry is either in overhaul or tied up for budgetary reasons. State transportation officials say regional ferry service won’t return until at least next month.

The city of Kodiak is in the middle of a three and a half month break in ferry service — the last Tustumena left in January, and the Kennicott won’t return until April.

Kodiak’s rally will be held at noon on Tuesday at the Tustumena ferry dock downtown.
