Dr. Bob Johnson honored by Alaska Legislature for “a life well lived”

The Alaska Legislature honored Kodiak’s Dr. Bob Johnson with a memorial citation to recognize his life’s work as a doctor, and as a supporter of the arts and humanities.

The citation was passed by the legislature on Friday, according to Senator Gary Steven’s office.

Johnson, known best as Dr. Bob, passed away on January 31.

A. Holmes Johnson, Dr. Bob’s father, was Kodiak’s first resident doctor. Dr. Bob grew up in Kodiak, went to medical school and returned to work in his father’s practice. He eventually took over the clinic.

As a physician, he saved lives, cured ailments, delivered babies and saw to the health concerns of Kodiak residents, according to the citation.

He also worked to make Kodiak a better place to live through service organizations and as a member of the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly, it says.

And he was a passionate advocate for the arts and humanities.

In summary, the citation reads: “The members of the Thirty-First Alaska State Legislature extend their condolences to Dr. Robert Holmes Johnson’s family and friends. They thank Dr. Bob for his efforts as a physician and champion of his community and commend him on a life well-lived.”
