New COVID-19 case at OBI Seafoods’ Alitak plant brings total to 38

Kodiak’s COVID-19 count went up by one on Friday. The Kodiak Emergency Operations Center reported a new case that’s been identified at the OBI Seafoods Plant at Alitak on the southern tip Kodiak Island.

The OBI processing plant has had 38 cases since July 28th.

This latest case brings the total count for Kodiak Island since April to 59. Forty of those cases are considered active.

The Kodiak Emergency Operations Center also announced changes on when it’ll provide updates on new positive tests for the virus.20200807 Positive Test Announcement – Case 59

It says new cases will no longer be reported over the weekend – and that if any infections are identified on the weekend, there will be no updates until Monday. In its news release, the EOC gave no explanation for the possible delay in reporting.
