Kodiak Island Borough Candidate Filings
Monday was the deadline for candidates to file in the October Municipal Elections.
In the Kodiak Island Borough, three assembly seats are open with seven candidates in the running:
- Joseph Delgado
- Alexander Hartman
- Sandra Katelnikoff-Lester
- Julie Kavanaugh
- Rebecca Skinner
- Geoffrey Smith
- Aimee Williams
There are also two seats open on the Kodiak Island Borough Board of Education. Only two candidates have filed: Duncan Fields and Katie Oliver.
In the service area boards, Service Area 1 has three seats open. Three candidates have filed:
- Scott Arndt
- Curtis Howell
- Mike Sirofchuck
In the Bayview Road and Monashka Bay service areas, no candidates filed. Each service area had one seat open.
Richard Carstens and Anthony “Craig” Walton filed for two open seats in Fire Protection Area No.1.
The Women’s Bay Service Area has three seats open. Only two have filed: Greg Egle and David Heuman.
Kodiak City Council Candidate Filings
The race for two open seats on the Kodiak City Council is effectively over. The Monday deadline for filing for the municipal elections passed, revealing there would be no contest.
Initially there were three candidates, but Sarah Harrington withdrew, giving Randall Bishop and Robert Stanford each a seat on the council.
Bishop currently serves on the council. Stanford is a bush pilot, known for owning and operating Island Air Service.
The Kodiak City Council is comprised of six members, elected at large for three-year terms.
