As of midnight Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, only early voting ballots for Tuesday’s municipal election had been reported by the Kodiak Island Borough.

The only contested seats among the city council, school board, and area service boards were three seats on the Kodiak Island Borough, two of them currently held by incumbents Julie Kavanaugh and Rebecca Skinner.

But as of late Tuesday night, only Kavanaugh looks to hold on to their seat.

Beating her in the early voting ballot were challengers Geoff Smith and Aimee Williams, who held a lead of over fifty votes against Kavanaugh. Skinner was losing to Smith and Williams by more than 80 votes. Trailing close behind Skinner was Joseph Delgado. The other challengers Sandra Katelnikoff-Lester and Alex Hartman had fewer than 100 votes.

Even Proposition 1, the ballot measure to permit the borough assembly to tap into the $40 million dollar fund to alleviate bond debt, held a decent lead from 198 votes in favor, to 114 against.

KMXT will have further updates as results are reported.
