The Coast Guard rushed to the assistance of a fishing boat taking on water Wednesday, according to the Coast Guard 17th District Public Affairs office. An Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew flew to the vessel, located six miles south of Icy Bay, to deliver a dewatering pump. The crew of the Elise Marie used the pump to stall the flooding as they waited for further assistance.

Wachstanders in Juneau received the initial request for assistance from an InReach device at 7 p.m., and directed a plane, a helicopter, and the Coast Guard Cutter John McCormick to the scene.

A Coast Guard C-130 airplane established communications with the Elise Marie while the Jayhawk crew delivered the pump.

The John McCormick arrived at 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning, and towed the Elise Marie to Yakutat, arriving at 11:30 a.m. later that morning.
