With more than thirty new cases of COVID-19 in the last week, the Kodiak Area Emergency Services Organization has raised the risk level for the region from green to yellow.Green status is considered low risk for the contracting the coronavirus and yellow designates medium risk.

Kodiak Community Mitigation Plan

Mike Tvenge, who doubles as Kodiak city manager and director of Emergency Services, says an emergency council, made up of representatives from various organizations, met to assess the risk level.

Based on the number of new infections in the community and their rapid transmission, the council decided to raise the risk level, because of its potential to spread out of control.
