As Kodiak starts another week in the red status, another COVID death was reported over the weekend: the third in Kodiak since the start of the pandemic. COVID-19 case counts from the weekend are still murky.
A Kodiak Area Emergency Services Organization update from Saturday announced 17 new cases for the Kodiak Island Borough.
These cases included five community transmission cases and 12 close contact cases.
Among these cases were two cases tested and not reported on December 8th, 11 cases on December 10th, and four cases on December 11th.
This brings the case count in Kodiak as of Saturday to 682 cases since the start of the pandemic, with 275 cases considered active locally. This is a substantial decrease from the 311 active cases last Friday.
While the EOC did not provide an update for case counts on Monday citing issues compiling cases, they were able to provide up to date hospitalization numbers. There have been 28 local hospitalizations to date, with four patients currently hospitalized in Kodiak.
