Coming into the week before the Christmas holiday, the Kodiak Area Emergency Operations Center has published limited local information on the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Emergency Operation Center is unable again this Monday to report new cases, saying that “local public health staff are working to compile new case information received over the weekend.” Updated information will be reported in Tuesday’s EOC report.
There have been 34 local hospitalizations to date, with five patients currently hospitalized. One individual was recently transported off-island for a higher level of care.
Another COVID-19 death was reported over the weekend, bringing the total to five local COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
The Kodiak Pandemic Plan Phase 5 indoor capacity restriction has been extended, meaning businesses will be required to limit their occupancy to 25% until January 15th.
Case counts from Saturday, the most recent day the EOC has released information for, included 12 new COVID-19 cases in the Kodiak Island Borough. These included one new community transmission case, three new travel related cases, and eight close contact cases.
This brings the current case count as of Saturday to 783 cases in the Kodiak Island Borough, with 158 cases classified as active locally.
