Elections underway in Kodiak

Election day for the Kodiak Island Borough and City Elections is today. In person precinct polling places are at the Bayside Fire Hall and Womens Bay Fire Hall for the Borough, and the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium and Teen Center for residents of the Borough and City of Kodiak. In person voting will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For the Borough, the Borough Assembly, School Board, and the borough service areas all have seats to be filled.

For Borough Assembly, Sara Sundsten, Dennis Symmons, James Turner, Eric Sundsten, and Scott Smiley are all running for two seats; Dennis Symmons and James Turner are incumbents.

For the School board, there are 2 candidates and one write-in candidate. David Johnson and Judy Carstens will appear on the ballot, and Tammy Faye Holforty has declared for write in candidacy.

Fire Protection Area No. 1 Service Area Board has three candidates for two seats- Scott Arndt, Paul VanDyke and John Parker are in contest for those two seats.

Service area No. 1 Board has two candidates for two seats; Paul Hansen and Jay Baldwin.

Women’s Bay Service Area Board has one write-in candidate for two seats- Jacob Castonguay.

Bay View Road Service Area Board, Mission Lake “Tide Gate” Service Area Board, and Monashka Bay Road Service Area Board each have two seats up for grabs with no candidates running for them- those seats and the remaining seat from the Womens Bay Service Area Board will be filled by appointment by the Borough Assembly.

For Kodiak City Council, Terry Haines, Tracy Craig, and Rich Walker are running for two seats. Haines and Walker are incumbents. Pat Branson is running unopposed for reelection as mayor of the City of Kodiak.
