Some residents in Kodiak city limits experienced a short term power outage midday Wednesday.

According to Kodiak Electric Association communications and HR specialist Nancy Sweeney, a branch fell on a power line near Baranof Street, taking power offline for nearly 500 customers in the area. The outage lasted for about an hour, according to Sweeney.

“The crew obtained the necessary equipment, closed the minor fault, removed the branch and then fully re-energized the line at 12:25pm,” Sweeney said.

Sweeney said the outage may well have been caused by Wednesday’s weather, which was a mix of intense snow in the morning and sunny conditions in the afternoon and evening.

KEA has nearly 4000 customers in the City of Kodiak. It provides service throughout the Kodiak road system and to Port Lions.
