Saltery Cove sockeye limits increased

Alaska’s Department of Fish and Game announced earlier this week that it was increasing the bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon in the Saltery Cove drainage. Sport fishermen can now bag up to 10 sockeye per day. The changes were announced Tuesday, July 19 and went into effect Thursday, July 21 at midnight.

Sockeye salmon had a slow start at Saltery Cove, according to Fish and Game, but more than 14,458 sockeye salmon had passed through the Saltery River weir as of Monday.

Anglers will still need to abide by existing bag limits on chums, pinks and cohos, according to the advisory, and possess no more than 10 fish total, all species combined.
