Kodiak incumbents extend leads in state races with votes still to be counted

Polls are closed and the first batch of election results are in.

Senate District C

Nov. 9, 12 p.m. Incumbent state Senator Gary Stevens has extended his lead with all precincts reporting. Stevens has 55% of the vote; that’s 2,471 more votes than Republican Heath Smith with 32%. Just over 11% of votes were cast for Republican candidate Walter Jones.

Nov. 8, 11 p.m. With more than 66% of precincts reporting, incumbent Gary Stevens, a Republican from Kodiak, leads the current vote tally with 54% of the vote. Republican challenger Heath Smith is nearly 2,300 votes behind Stevens with 33% of the vote, and Walter Jones, another Republican, currently has just over 11% of the vote.

House District 5

Nov. 9 12 p.m. Incumbent state Rep. Louise has collected 57% of the vote with all precincts reporting. Her Republican challenger Benjamin Vincent, who is also from Kodiak, is 610 votes behind Stutes with 42%.

Nov. 8, 11 p.m. Things are tighter in the race between Kodiak Republican House Speaker Louise Stutes and her Republican challenger Benjamin Vincent. Stutes has just over 56% of the vote with half of precincts reporting; Vincent has 43% of the vote. Just over than 500 votes separate the two candidates.

Tonight’s results include votes cast at polling places on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8, and early voting ballots from Oct. 24 through Nov. 3. Results also only include first-place votes. Races won’t be finalized until ranked choice votes are tabulated on Wednesday, Nov. 23. The latest vote totals are available on the state’s Division of Elections website.
