Kodiak High School’s fire alarm went off twice Friday morning before students started class. Both turned out to be false alarms, but students had to wait outside or in buses for around 30 minutes until the issue was resolved.
According to Assistant Principal Matt Bieber, the alarm tripped due to a faulty sensor. After a single reset, students began to reenter the building — however, the same sensor tripped a second time just 20 minutes after.
Bieber says the faulty sensor was cleaned, deemed safe, and monitored for the rest of the day. He says the administration ordered new parts for the alarm as well as replacement sensors in case of future issues.
The assistant principal thanked the community for their help and patience, as well as the Kodiak Fire Department for their assistance that morning.
