Fire Department responds to suspected arson near Kodiak College

Kodiak Fire Department responded to a call for suspected arson Friday afternoon in a wooded area between Kodiak College and the Fir Terrace Apartments, which is across from Safeway on Mill Bay Road. No injuries were reported and damage was limited to wooded areas.

A spokesperson for the city of Kodiak says a tree near the complex was ablaze and reported around 4 p.m. Fire officials responded with extinguishers and the fire was put out shortly after arrival.

The spokesperson said residents reported seeing some young people in the area, however no names were given. There are currently no suspects and the investigation is suspended pending new information.
