Pride Month is celebrated across the country and internationally each June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City, which are considered a watershed moment for the LGBTQ+ community’s fight for equality. In Kodiak, both the city and borough have issued proclamations observing June as Pride Month.
KMXT’s news director Kirsten Dobroth spoke with Hazel Delos Santos and Amanda Becker from Kodiak Pride about what this month’s celebration will look like in Kodiak, and the importance of Pride.
