The Alaska Board of Fisheries dealt a double blow to Kodiak salmon fishermen. Fishing was limited in two of Kodiak’s traditional fishing areas in the hope of increasing fishing opportunities in Chignik and Cook Inlet.

But fishermen in Chignik say the change to the Cape Igvak fishery is long overdue. We have reports from both sides of the Cape Igvak issue.

The Coast Guard says most of its VHF radio towers in Prince William Sound are working, while also issuing new warnings about outages in Southeast Alaska.

Also the Coast Guard reminds fishermen and others to carry extra communications gear for use in areas where they can’t reach watchstanders using the VHF radio emergency frequency. And when all fails, hit the EPIRB.

The Alaska Legislature gaveled in this week. We have a look at two bills affecting fishermen.
