Gun Left in Carry-On at Benny Benson Airport

KODIAK, Alaska (AP) — Alaska State Troopers say a loaded semiautomatic gun was found in a carry-on backpack of the 26-year-old Kodiak man trying to board an Anchorage-bound plane.
Troopers were contacted Wednesday evening by the Transportation Security Administration at the Kodiak Benny Benson State Airport.
According to troopers, the man transported a .40-caliber semiautomatic gun into the TSA checkpoint area while trying to board an Alaska Airlines jet. Troopers say the gun was spotted through an x-ray machine and contained 16 rounds in the magazine, but none in the chamber.
Troopers say the gun was seized and the man was released on his own recognizance.
The jet was allowed to continue.
Troopers say a charge of prohibited weapon in a restricted area will be forwarded to state prosecutors for review.
