The Kodiak High School volleyball team was nearly perfect in rolling to a first place finish at the Peninsula Challenge in Homer over the weekend.

Ten teams took part in the tournament including Northern Lights Conference rivals Homer, Kenai, Soldotna and Skyview.

The Bears lost only one game the entire weekend: 15-25 in the first set of the championship match versus Skyview. However, Kodiak bounced back to take the next three games from the Panthers, 25-18, 25-23, and 25-23.

Coach Rick Carman says the Bears “did a great job of playing as a team in the final match.”

Middle Blocker Maureen Sabado was selected as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player by opposing coaches, and Outside Hitter Linzee Burcham was voted to the All-Tournament Team.

Up next for the Bears is the final road trip of the regular season this weekend at the Grace Invitational Tournament, hosted by Grace Christian School in Anchorage.
