Voter turn out in Tuesday’s General Election was moderate to high in Kodiak. Of 10,480 registered voters, 4,170 cast ballots. That’s a turnout of very nearly 40 percent.

District 36 residents went for the McCain-Palin ticket 2,649 to 1,385 for Obama/Biden. Of course, Obama won the national vote.

In the race for U.S. Senate, residents preferred Democrat Mark Begich 2,181 over Ted Stevens, who received 1,706 votes. Stevens has a narrow edge over Begich statewide.

Representative Don Young did prevail here, though, 2,090 to 1,830 over Ethan Berkowitz. Young was safely ahead of Berkowitz overall.

And residents here also approved of the statewide transportation bond by a nearly 2-to-1 margin.

There are 1,381 absentee votes still to be counted for District 36.
