After opening the 42nd annual Joe Floyd Christmas tournament with losses, both the Kodiak High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams rebounded to finish second in the tournament with 2-and-1 records. The boys’ team beat Chevak on Friday, 56-to-46, and South Anchorage on Saturday, 57-to51, while the girls defeated Petersburg Friday, 42-to-31, and Homer Saturday, 38-to-21. Nome defeated Homer 38-to-29 Saturday to take the girls’ title in the tournament with a 3-and-0 record, and Petersburg beat Chevak 55-to-35 to win in the boys’ bracket, after having previously defeated South Anchorage.

Kodiak girls’ head coach Brett Larson said he was disappointed with the team’s effort on the opening night, but that overall the team’s effort was solid.

The Kodiak boys will be in action next on January 9th and 10th when Wasilla visits Kodiak, and the girls will travel to Fairbanks for the Lathrop Golden Heart Tournament the same weekend.
