New School Board Member Appointed

The Kodiak Island School Board traded one Peggy for another as they announced its newest member this (Wednesday) afternoon. The board appointed Peggy Rauwolf to replace outgoing member Peggy Tuttle.

Jeff Stephen, a member of the school board helped run the meeting via conference phone, since half the board members were out of town.

Rauwolf, reached in Homer, says she is extremely happy to be appointed to this position.

Rauwolf works at GCI as a lead sales representative. She ran for the seat last year and lost to Melissa Borton by only 15 votes.

Incoming Superintendent Stuart McDonald says he is happy to welcome Rauwolf to the school board.

Rauwolf was one of two applicants for the vacancy created when Tuttle resigned. Tuttle’s husband is in the Coast Guard and is being transferred out of state. Ken McCarty was the other candidate vying for the position.

Even though she’s helping out at GCI’s Homer offices for a few weeks, Rauwolf will be back in Kodiak to be sworn in at the school board’s regular meeting on Monday. She will serve until October, when the seat will be up for election to fill out the last year of Tuttle’s unexpired term.
