Borough Manager Bud Cassidy attended his last Kodiak Island Borough Assembly regular meeting Thursday, although not in the capacity of borough manager. Borough assessor Bill Roberts will fill that role while the assembly interviews potential applicants to replace Cassidy, who handed in his 90-day notice in December. Cassidy had been serving in the position until just recently, and usually participates in regular meetings.

However, Thursday, he sat in the audience. As part of that night’s agenda, Borough Mayor Jerrol Friend presented Cassidy with a plaque in recognition of his roughly thirty years of employment for the borough in different roles.

Afterwards, Cassidy stepped up to the podium.

“I can say that working for government, it isn’t really just one person that gets things done. You’ve got to have a good staff, and you have a good staff here. A couple of the projects that I worked on that I’m probably most proud about is participating in the acquisition, or the selling I guess, of Shuyak Island to the Exxon Valdez oil spill folks. Purchasing land for North Star [Elementary] School.”

Cassidy said his last day is Wednesday and the assembly announced it would interview two finalists for the position of borough manager next week. One applicant is from California and the other from Yakutat
