Summer Air Service To Homer Comes To End

Island Air in Kodiak has been providing scheduled passenger flight services to many villages around the island for many years, and this summer added service to Homer. Mary Donaldson has more.

Island Air has been operating scheduled and chartered flights all over Kodiak Island since 1980. Owner Bob Stanford says that many years ago he put Homer on his list of scheduled flights, but after a tepid response, decided to remove it.

(Stanford 1 :10s "…starting the run.")

Stanford says he brought back the Homer flights in May.

(Stanford 2 :19s "…90 days.")

Stanford says with fall here, the Homer flight has been retired for the year, but will return to the schedule next year. He says this year was a building year to potentially bring more business for the Homer flight next year.

(Stanford 3 :35s "…avenues for the future.")

The Homer flight takes about an hour one way, with rates this season at 500-dollars round trip, or about 250-dollars one way. This summer had Stanford’s planes flying to Homer and back three times a week.

I’m Mary Donaldson.
