Man Jumps Off Western Dock

Emergency crews responded to the dock at Western Alaska Fisheries in Kodiak this afternoon (Thursday), after a man stripped naked and jumped into the water.

Lieutenant David Billings with the Kodiak Fire Department says the 911 call came in around 3:15. He says the man apparently jumped in and then climbed onto one of the crossbeams below the pier until harbor and police officers arrived. They transported him to Oscar’s Dock, where an ambulance crew was waiting to treat him for hypothermia and transport him to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.

Billings estimates the man was in the water for five to ten minutes and then on the crossbeam below the dock for another twenty minutes or so. He says he was cooperative once authorities arrived, but didn’t give any indication as to why he’d jumped in.
