Two teams from Peterson Elementary School in Kodiak are going to the state competition for the Battle of the Books.

Peterson Elementary Principal Beth Kohl and Chris Hicks, a teacher there, presented the results of the most recent battle of the books competition at the Kodiak Island Borough School District meeting on Monday evening. Kohl said students were enthusiastic about the contest and about reading.

At the meeting, Hicks said he has a rather unusual method of inspiring kids to read.

Hicks’ fourth grade students and a team of sixth grade students will be competing at the state level competition on February 25th.
