The American Legion will be holding its state convention this month in Kodiak. More than a 100 veterans and auxiliary members are expected to arrive in less than two weeks for a convention hosted by local Post 17.
Alaska’s state commander Bill Jacobi says the convention will draw people from across the state.
— convention 1 :25 "They come from all over … visiting time in."
Past national commander Peggy Dettori of Kodiak says the convention will receive a slew of national figures from the organization.
— convention 2 :42 "Not only will we have … I’m very excited."
The convention will be held from April 21st through 23rd. And Dettori says a pair of service officers will be in town to offer advice and assistance to veterans interested in signing up for V-A benefits. Appointments will be available during the two days leading up to the convention.
— convention 3 :37 "Just prior to the convention … their VA benefits."
Jacobi says the American Legion is a support organization for the men and women who have returned from active duty in the armed forces.
— convention 4 :29 "Our primary duties … while they’re in the service."
Kodiak hosted the state convention in 2005. Last year’s convention was in Kenai. Next year will likely be in Palmer.
