Boat Sinks, Crew in Good Condition

Three fishermen aboard the 32-foot fishing vessel Cyclone were rescued about 20 miles southeast of Kodiak on Friday. Around 7:15 a.m. a member of the crew radioed the Coast Guard to report that the boat was sinking. The Coast Guard was able to broadcast to mariners in the area and the good Samaritan vessel Glacier responded. The men were pulled from the water about 15 minutes after their initial distress call and were in good enough condition to stay overnight with the crew of the Glacier while they continued to fish. They returned to Kodiak on Saturday.

About 100 gallons of diesel was on the Cyclone, which has submerged completely. The Coast Guard’s Marine Safety Detachment Unit will continue to investigate the cause of the sinking and monitor the area for pollution.
