The Kodiak City Council held a regular meeting last night and took the opportunity to thank the various seafood processing workers who’ve come from all over the world. Councilman Mark Vizcocho read a proclamation that was issued by Mayor Pat Branson acknowledging August 23 as Seafood Processors Day.
The council also held a public hearing and a vote to clear up the city bed tax ordinance in the wake of the sales tax hike.
"Our code currently says there a bed tax of 11 percent. But you have to read on several pages later and it says there’s a bed tax of 5 percent and a transient sales tax of 6 percent," said City Manager Aimee Kniaziowski. "So we needed to correct that language to reflect the seven percent of the new sales tax rate."
No one from the community commented during the public hearing, and the council passed the motion unanimously.
During the meeting the council also appointed Natasha Hayden to the City Parks and Recreation Board.
The next city council regular meeting will be on September 13.
