Lots of Action for the Sports Fan in Kodiak

Jay Barrett/KMXT

It’s a big sports weekend here in Kodiak. Besides the rodeo and mud-bogging out at the fairgrounds, pretty much every high school athlete will be in action today or tomorrow.

Starting at 4 this afternoon the volleyball C-team hosts the Soldotna Stars in the high school gym. JV plays at 5:30 and varsity at 7.

At 5, the cross country team will be at Fort Abercrombie hosting Skyview, Kotzebue and what Coach Marcus Dunbar calls the best team in the state, West Valley. The Kodiak boys will be looking to continue their 22-meet winning streak at Abercrombie.

The swimming and diving team will play host to East Anchorage at 6 p.m. and at 6:30, the Kodiak JV football team will be playing Colony at the Woody Way Field.

On Saturday volleyball kicks off several C-team, JV and varsity matches at 10 a.m. in the high school. The second round of swimming and diving starts at that hour as well and the JV football teams will hit the gridiron again at 11 a.m.

Cross country starts at 1 p.m., but the meet will be in Port Lions. Kotzebue, West Valley, Skyview and Kodiak will all be there.
