Tonight, the major act for the Kodiak Arts Council’s performing arts series will take the stage at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium. KMXT’s Brianna Gibbs has more.
Arlo Guthrie lives up to his family’s name. He’s the eldest son of folk legend Woody Guthrie, but stands on his own two feet in the musical arena. Since the late 1960s, the singer and songwriter has released more than two dozen albums and performed at sold out venues around the world.
Kodiak Arts Council Director Katie Oliver said Guthrie’s visit to Kodiak is part of a year-long tour honoring his late father.

— (Arlo Guthrie 2 :13 “It’s a solo tour and it’s called ‘Here Comes the Kid’ and it’s a tour that he embarked on last year in 2012 to mark the 100th anniversary of Woody Guthrie’s birthday.”)

Oliver credited Guthrie’s stop in Kodiak to the work of former Art’s Council Director Tom Quass.
— (Arlo Guthrie 3 :16 “It was a little bit of a late notice opportunity that came about, about a year ago. I can see from the email thread that Tom got an email from another Alaska presenter that said would you be willing to go in with us to bring Arlo Guthrie to the state and he jumped on it. And here we are, a four city tour.”)

Construction near the auditorium has limited parking availability, so Oliver recommended folks arrive at the show early.
— (Arlo Guthrie 4 :25 “The Kodiak High School parking lot has been fenced off as a staging area for the high school renovation and construction project. So we’re asking folks to come a little early. The auditorium parking lot will be available and we’ll also have overflow parking on the middle school playground and then audience members can access the auditorium complex from the back end, the dance studio entrance. And we’ll have signs directing people down the halls and up the stairs to the foyer.”

Tickets are available online at Kodiak Arts Council dot org. Oliver said the box office will be open before the show, but tickets are going fast.
— (Arlo Guthrie 5 :25 “Advance ticket sales have been fantastic. They’re flying out of the office. It very well might break a record here for advance ticket sales.”)

Arlo Guthrie will take the stage tonight at 7 p.m.
I’m Brianna Gibbs.
